Why we keep this night
He appears, age after age
paritrāṇāya sādhūnāṁ vināśāya ca duṣkṛtām dharma-saṁsthāpanārthāya sambhavāmi yuge yuge
To protect those devoted to Him, to end what destroys, and to re-establish the path — He takes birth in age after age.
janma karma ca me divyaṁ evaṁ yo vetti tattvataḥ tyaktvā dehaṁ punar janma naiti mām eti so 'rjuna
Whoever truly understands that His birth and His acts are not of this world does not return to it. He comes to Him.
